Purple Rhinestone Eagle Vinyl

Purple Rhinestone Eagle are a trio of wonderfully witchy women from Portland, Oregon (via Philadelphia) whose heavy, mystical psych-fuzz lured me into a world of new age doom the second I heard it. Not one to be persuaded by effeminately disastrous band names, I dismissed their shiny moniker and looked instead into the dark crystal orb of roundtable rock they held in the palm of their silken hands and was mesmerized by the bearded bravado these earthly maidens were able to conjure up. I had barely made it through one song and I was already ordering their 2009 five-song 12″ EP, Amorum Tali (Eolian Records).

If Andrea Genevieve (guitar, vocals), Morgan Ray Denning (bass, backing vocals), and Ashley Spungin (drums, backing vocals) had existed in a time and place long before this one (and, really, I’m not so sure that they didn’t), they would’ve been burned at the stake for their sorcerous ways. Heretics and harlots, each one of ‘em, paisley pushers with an acid agenda, sisters of mercy for the almighty riff, they dare to delve the fantastic depths with nothing more than an oil lantern and a walking stick, trailing incense and analog vibes.

They’ve just recorded their first-full length, which should be out sometime this year, but in the meantime, check out Amorum Tali (that’s Latin for “talons of love”…I guess they can’t help but be girls, sometimes). Here’s some pictures of the vinyl I now have in my possession! Amazing!

Listen to “Walk With the Wizard” from Amorum Tali!
