Purple Rhinestone Eagle/Northern Swords/Forsorcerers
Fantasy Quest 7″
Poison Apple
What the fuck is going on in Portland, Oregon? I thought my recent discovery of Purple Rhinestone Eagle was rare, but it turns out the whole town is full of secret covens in hidden lairs amassing a cohesive army of high priestess power, steadying themselves to strike like a seething force of Joan of Arcs. Joining Purple Rhinestone Eagle on this particular battlefield (Poison Apple’s split seven inch, Fantasy Quest, from November 2009) are Northern Swords and Forsorcerers, and together they rock in the name of glory, freedom, honour, and death.

Nebula/Quest for Fire
Split 7″
Tee Pee
Two choice cuts of psych-splittin’ stoner fuzz from L.A. cosmic power trio, Nebula, and Canada’s own chaotic rockers, Quest for Fire. Nebula’s contribution, “The Perfect Rapture,” contains all the traces of their signature satellite sound punctuated with retro, end-of-days-on-acid riffs, while Quest for Fire’s “In the Place of a Storm” is a rather hip but moaning garage rock song with just a hint of doom, somewhat subtler than what we heard on their self-titled debut last year. Word has it that Nebula called it quits, so if that’s the case this might be the last thing we’ll hear from them. Quest for Fire, however, are due to release a new album later this year, so this should tie you over until then!
Listen to “The Perfect Rapture” and “In the Place of a Storm” from the Nebula/Quest for Fire split 7″!

Ok, it’s been a few days, but it’s December now so let’s get back at it, shall we? Might as well hit the ground running with four new entries, which I will refer to as the seven inch stretch, that time in the top 39 when we grab a beer or two and make sure we’re nice and limber for the greatness to come as we head on down the home stretch. All these entries are small and quick, but pack one hell of a punch, and at 7″, they’re just like me. Yowza.
#28 The Evaporators/Andrew W.K. – A Wild Pear
On this split EP, The Human Serviette meets the guy who never uses a serviette, and when you really think about it, it’s a perfect match. The backstory on how this 7″ came to be is quite long and interesting, and it’s all detailed in the amazing liner notes. It’s a veritable history lesson in Canadian punk, more or less, of which Andrew W.K. and Nardwuar are quite versed, and they pay due diligence by covering songs from The Subhumans, The Leather Uppers, and Les Hou-Lops. There’s also an Evaporators original, and at 45 RPM the whole thing is over in about 8 minutes (add on five seconds to flip the record). Wild indeed!
