Black Magic; All Mysteries Revealed

Volcom Entertainment

It’s always a real pain in the ass when someone tries introducing me to a band by saying, “they’re the best band you’ve never heard of” and that’s mostly because I have heard of them, and merely suggesting I haven’t heard of them insinuates that I, unlike the much cooler, more maligned you, have my bearded head buried deep inside the business end of a pregnant alpaca.

Brian Keats Dies

brian-keatsFirst, do what you can to help everyone in Haiti. That’s some bad mojo there, and the country and its people can use our aid.

Also, drummer Brian Keats (or Keitz) has died at the age of 46 from liver cancer. Keats was a true drummer-for-hire, roughing it out in the trenches, but that’s not to diminish his talent or contribution. Keats played for a lot of bands, most notably The Misfits, Raging Slab, Princess Pang, Angels in Vain, and Sylvain Sylvain. My good friend Scarlet Rowe, who played with Keats in Angels of Vain, had this to say:

“He was without a doubt one of the greatest and most original drummers I’d ever seen or heard. A true gentleman and wonderful person. He will be missed.”

Beards up, brothers and sisters. Things will get better. Go Conan.
